Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, January 30 2009 - On Wednesday 28th January 2009,
CUNA Caribbean Insurance Society Limited a member of the world-wide CUNA Mutual
Group welcomed guests to celebrate the official opening of its new office at 7
Gray Street, St. Clair, Port of Spain. CUNA Caribbean Insurance has been
serving credit unions and their members for more than 55 years and has been a
subsidiary company for 20 years.
In welcoming guests, Anthony Hall, General Manager, CUNA Caribbean Insurance
stated that “CUNA Caribbean Insurance was established in July1989, and the
company has come a long way since it’s formation, a development which at that
time tested both loyalty of credit unions to the organization and more
importantly signaled to CUNA Mutual that the provision of relevant insurance
products and services supported by quality customer service aimed at satisfying
and exceeding expectations was the standard to be set.”
He further added that “Over the 20 years, the company’s relationship with
credit unions, members and regulators have improved to the point where we are
often looked upon to play a leadership role on issues affecting the movement.”
In order to understand and appreciate the dynamics within the credit union
movement, in 2001, the company established The PolicyOwners Advisory Council
made up of credit union Presidents representing a cross-section of both industry
and community credit unions. The relationship with this advisory group will
allow the company to play an integral part in the future development of the
credit union movement.
Mr. Javier Tejeda-Vera, Vice-President, Regional Manager, Caribbean & Latin
America CUNA Mutual’s International Group, in addressing guests stated that, “He
was extremely proud to open the new office to serve Trinidad and Tobago and the
region. The main reason we exist is to serve our credit unions and their
members. This facility is the translation of many, many years of hard work,
dedication and is also the basis to provide better services to our credit unions
and members and a better working environment to our staff who are loyal and
dedicated to you.” He also stated that “The Global Financial Crisis is now the
new buzz word and it has significantly affected the United States. When
everyone is taking two steps backwards, we are investing in our future, we are
investing in you. I hope that this building translates to that, we believe in
our market, we believe in our people and we believe in our leaders.”
Mr. Carl Hiralal, Inspector of Financial Institutions, Central Bank of
Trinidad and Tobago cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the new
office which was witnessed by a cross-section of specially invited guests within
